Rail Services

Winchester Station is your nearest rail station, situated north of Winchester town centre. Winchester offers a number of services to destinations across the south, including; London Waterloo, London Paddington, Basingstoke, Farnborough, Southampton, Salisbury and Portsmouth. Services to London Waterloo operate up to three times an hour, whilst services to Portsmouth operate hourly. The station has step-free access to both platforms.

Railcards

Travelling on the train regularly can be cheap! Railcards are a great way to save money (up to a third) on train travel. There are several cards available, these include:

  • 16-17 Saver Railcard;
  • 16-25 Railcard;
  • 26-30 Railcard;
  • Disabled Person Railcard;
  • Two Together Railcard;
  • Friends and Family Railcard; and
  • Senior Railcards

 

Touch Smartcards

South Western Railway have recently introduced a Touch Smartcard to hold your train tickets electronically. They are free to obtain and can be loaded with your tickets using the SWR app. These are a great alternative to paper tickets. They are more durable, harder to loose and are less harmful to the environment!

 

Getting to the station

Travel by Bus

Winchester station is located on the No. 66 & 5 bus services route, with services stopping adjacent to the station forecourt.  Travelling by bus to the station could be cheaper than parking for the day.

Why not try out the Plus Bus scheme.  This allows you to make further savings on your bus transfer ticket, either to the station or at your journey destination.

Plus Bus Winchester is £3.00/day, £10.00/week, £38.00/month, £110/3 months and £410/year for an adult, with reduced rates for children.

You can purchase Plus Bus at the station or online at the time of booking your journey.  To start your journey with a bus trip to the station, you must obtain your tickets in advance of the day of travel.  There are three ways you can do this:

  • Have your tickets posted to you,
  • Pick up your tickets from the station on a previous occasion.

Parking charges at the station are currently:  £9.30 daily, £46.20 weekly, £138.90 monthly, £416.70 three-monthly, and £1,379.00 annually.  Plus Bus travel offers quite a saving over parking charges!

 

Cycling to the Station

For the more energetic there is a cycle route between Pitt Manor and Winchester town centre/rail station, it’s approximately 1.6 miles or a 27 minute walk.  There are 286 bike storage spaces at the train station which are located in a cycle hub with 24 hour access.  If you are travelling on a folding bike or outside of rush hour on a standard cycle you could take your bike on the train.  Check with the rail operator’s website for conditions of carriage.
